Description
Technics SL-1200GR2 Grand Class Direct Drive Turntable
The Technics SL-1200GR2 represents the first stage of Technics’ new generation of direct drive turntables, featuring the groundbreaking ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive) motor control system. This revolutionary technology applies Technics’ expertise in PWM signal processing to thoroughly suppress minute vibrations from the motor, ensuring smoother, more accurate rotation and a rich, detailed reproduction of music. Building on over 50 years of direct drive innovation since introducing the world’s first direct drive turntable in 1970, the SL-1200GR2 delivers professional-grade performance for discerning audiophiles and installation professionals.
Advanced Motor and Drive Technology
At the heart of the SL-1200GR2 is a single-rotor, surface-facing, coreless direct drive motor that completely eliminates cogging—the rotation irregularity unique to direct drive systems. The motor achieves exceptional starting torque of 2.2 kg·cm with build-up characteristics of just 0.7 seconds to 33-1/3 rpm, while maintaining industry-leading wow and flutter of only 0.025% W.R.M.S.. The multi-stage silent power supply incorporates a high-speed switching circuit operating above 100 kHz, combined with current injection active noise cancelling technology that detects and removes residual noise for an ideal power delivery.
Precision Engineering and Build Quality
The turntable features a two-layer aluminium die-cast platter weighing 2.5 kg (0.8 kg heavier than the previous SL-1200MK5) with deadening rubber applied to the entire rear surface, delivering damping characteristics more than twice that of its predecessor. The static-balance universal S-shaped tonearm employs an aluminium pipe with gimbal suspension construction and achieves exceptional initial-motion sensitivity of 5 mg or less through manual assembly by skilled artisans. High-rigidity construction includes a two-layered BMC and aluminium die-cast chassis cabinet, supported by high-damping silicon insulators for superior vibration isolation.
